In order to improve the clinical nursing education in fundamental nursing practices, an analysis of checklists for the fundamental nursing practices was performed. Nursing students checked it during clinical practice.
1. The high involvement items of ’self implementation’ practice experience were taking signs, taking nursing history, related admission, nursing assessment(observation, conversation, inspection of skin), application of ice bag, transportation of patient, bed making, medical hand washing, handling of forceps, and prevention of self infection in general ward.
The high involvement items of ’self implementation’ practice experience were nursing assessment(conversation), taking vital signs, suction, tube feeding, checking input/output, application of ice bag, transportation of patient, bed making, using surgical glove, aseptic technique, and prevention of self infection in special ward.
2. The high involvement items of ’observation’ practice experience were diagnostic test, method of sampling for test, using computer, reporting, oxygen inhalation, catheterization, intervention of pain relief, medication, and dressing site in both of general ward and special ward.
The results showed that nursing students, clinical instructors, and nurses in clinical setting should have their own role for the same goal in clinical nursing education.
